Average student, no projects, final year? Do these 5 things before you graduate
You spent 4 years just passing courses. You still have time — here's the catch-up plan.
If you spent your whole degree just passing courses and chasing GPA, with no real projects and no plan — you’re most of the class, and you still have time. Here are the 5 things that actually matter before you graduate.
- Ship ONE real project. Not a course assignment — something that works and solves a real problem. One good project beats ten half-finished ones.
- Build a real GitHub. Put that project up with a clean README. Employers check GitHub, not your transcript.
- Go deep on ONE in-demand skill. Pick one (a language, or an area like data/cloud/AI) and get genuinely good, instead of touching ten things lightly.
- Fix your LinkedIn. A clear headline (skill + stack), your project in Featured, and start connecting with people in the roles you want.
- Do one mock interview. Practice explaining your project and answering basic questions out loud before it’s the real thing.
You don’t need to have been the top student. You need proof you can build and a plan for the next 6 months. Start with number one this week.
