Will the AI bubble save your job? The honest plan either way
Bubble or not, the junior door is narrowing. Here's what to actually do.
Half the internet is waiting for the “AI bubble” to pop so things go back to normal. Betting your career on that is a bad plan. Here’s the honest version.
Whether or not there’s a bubble, two things are already true:
- The generic junior door has narrowed — the boilerplate, CRUD and first-pass work juniors used to learn on is exactly what AI does first.
- Companies still hire — but for people who can direct AI, catch where it’s wrong, and own a problem end to end.
So the AI bubble bursting wouldn’t save a “just writes code” junior. And if it doesn’t burst, the same skills protect you. Either way, the move is the same.
The plan that holds up in both worlds:
- Master fundamentals — CS basics + one language deep. AI can’t give you judgment.
- Build 2–3 real projects using AI as your pair, and learn to review its output critically.
- Pick one compounding skill (AI/ML, data, cloud, security) instead of chasing every new tool.
- Get visible — a GitHub and a LinkedIn that show the work.
Don’t wait for the market to change. Become the person it still needs.
