Use Claude to run your job search (the CV prompts + the full repo)

The exact prompts from the video to tailor your CV and push its ATS score past 90 — plus a free repo that automates the whole job search.

UsmanUsman · updated September 2026keyword: CLAUDEJOB

In the video you saw me drop a job description and my resume into a plain Claude chat, get it scored, tailored, and pushed past a 90 ATS score in about two minutes. No coding, no installs. This guide gives you that exact setup and the prompts, and then a free tool that automates the entire job search once you want to go further.

Part 1 — The exact setup from the video (tailor your CV + hit 90+ ATS)

This runs in a normal chat at claude.ai. Nothing to install. Three steps.

Step 1 — paste this setup once. Put it in a Claude Project’s custom instructions, or just send it as your first message in a fresh chat. It tells Claude how to behave for both prompts:

You are my resume-tailoring assistant. Keep every reply clean and structured —
lead with the result, use short bold-labelled sections and tight bullets, no long
intros or filler.

Show any score with a 10-block bar, like:
RESUME SCORE: 6/10 ▓▓▓▓▓▓░░░░
ATS SCORE: 78/100 ▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓░░

Hard honesty rule: never invent skills, tools, jobs, or numbers my resume doesn't
support. You may rephrase, reposition and surface what's genuinely there, and fix
formatting — but if the job needs something I clearly don't have, tell me instead
of faking it.

Work in two phases, and wait for me each time.

PHASE 1 — when I send a JOB DESCRIPTION + my RESUME:
1. RESUME SCORE: X/10 + bar, and one line on why.
2. WEAK POINTS FIXED — 3 to 5 items, each as:
   ❌ [original weak line]
✅ [stronger rewrite with real action verbs + the JD's keywords]
3. ✅ UPDATED RESUME — my full improved resume in clean, ATS-friendly plain text
(Contact, Summary, Skills, Experience, Education, Projects; no tables, columns
   or graphics).

PHASE 2 — when I ask for the ATS score, score my UPDATED resume against the JD on
this rubric and show the breakdown:
- Keyword & skills match (40): % of the JD's key skills/keywords present.
- Requirements coverage (25): does the resume evidence the role's responsibilities.
- Formatting & parseability (20): standard sections, clear contact line, nothing
  that breaks a parser.
- Title & role alignment (15): summary/title matches the target role.
Show ATS SCORE: XX/100 + bar + the four sub-scores.

If the ATS score is under 90:
- Name the section dragging it down.
- Rewrite only that section legitimately (better keywords, phrasing, formatting —
  never invented experience).
- Recompute and show the new score.
- Repeat until it's 90+, showing each pass compactly, e.g.
  Pass 1: 78 → fixed Skills + Summary → Pass 2: 91 ✅

Step 2 — the first prompt (score + rewrite + updated resume). Paste your real resume and a real job posting where shown:

Here's a job description and my current resume.

1) Score my resume out of 10 for how well it fits THIS job, and tell me in one line why.
2) Pull out my 3–5 weakest lines and rewrite each one stronger — real action verbs,
quantified where possible, using the keywords from the job description (only the
   ones I actually match).
3) Then give me back my full updated resume in clean, ATS-friendly plain text.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
[paste the full job description]

MY RESUME:
[paste your resume]

Step 3 — the second prompt (ATS score + auto-fix to 90+).

Now take my UPDATED resume and the same job description and give it an ATS score
out of 100, with the breakdown (keyword match, requirements coverage, formatting,
title alignment).

If the score is below 90, rewrite whatever section is pulling it down — legitimately,
without adding skills I don't have — then recalculate. Keep going until the ATS score
is 90 or above, and show me the final version.

That’s the whole demo. Two honest things so you use it right. The ATS number here is an ATS-style keyword-and-formatting check, not one official universal score (every real ATS is different), so treat it as a strong proxy, not gospel. And the honesty rule matters: let Claude sharpen and reword what you’ve actually done, but never let it bolt on skills you don’t have — a keyword you can’t back up in the interview costs you more than it gains.

Part 2 — Automate the WHOLE job search (the free repo)

The chat above tailors one CV at a time. If you want the whole pipeline — finding jobs, scoring fit, writing the CV and cover letter as real PDFs, and interview prep — there’s a free, open-source project that turns Claude Code into exactly that. It’s called ai-job-search, built by Mads Lorentzen, a geophysicist who got laid off in late 2025 and made it to get back in. By his own count it produced 69 tailored applications, 20 first interviews, and one signed contract, and he started as an AI engineer in June 2026. MIT licensed, free to copy.

Two honest things first. The repo is free but Claude Code isn’t — you need a paid Claude plan or API credits. And it isn’t one-click: you copy the repo to your laptop, install a few tools, and run Claude Code inside that folder. Give the first setup an evening. After that, each application takes a fraction of the time.

What it actually does

Every stage is a command you run inside Claude Code, and everything lives in one folder so each run builds on the last:

  1. /setup — reads your CV, LinkedIn export and documents, and builds your full candidate profile.
  2. /scrape — searches job boards and rates each posting High, Medium or Low fit.
  3. /rank — turns a big scrape into a scored shortlist so you’re not eyeballing 50 jobs.
  4. /apply — scores fit first and asks before writing, then a drafter agent writes your CV and cover letter, a second agent researches the company and critiques the draft, and it compiles clean PDFs (exactly 2 pages for the CV, 1 for the letter). It even reads the PDF text back to check an ATS can parse it.
  5. /interview — likely questions mapped to your real examples, plus an optional mock interview.
  6. /outcome — logs what happened so the fit scoring learns from what actually got you interviews.

Like the chat prompts above, it checks every claim against your real profile and won’t invent skills or stuff keywords you don’t have.

Install these first

Four things on your machine: Claude Code (the CLI, signed in with your paid plan), Python 3.10+, Bun (runs the job-board search tools), and a LaTeX setup with lualatex and xelatex (turns your CV into a real PDF). Optional fifth: poppler or pypdf for the ATS text check. If LaTeX feels heavy, the small install (TinyTeX) works with one extra command, or register your own template later with /add-template.

From zero to your first application

  1. Copy the repo and keep it private. Your name, contact details and salary expectations end up in files here, so clone it and keep it on your own computer. Documents are kept out of git by default, but don’t publicly fork it with your data inside.

    git clone https://github.com/MadsLorentzen/ai-job-search.git
    cd ai-job-search
  2. Install the job-board tools. From inside the folder, run the install loop from the repo’s README for your OS. LinkedIn and freehire.me need no dependencies, so it’s quick.

  3. Fill the documents/ folder. Drop in your CV, your LinkedIn export (Profile → More → Save to PDF), degrees, reference letters and past applications. Convert Word files to PDF first — it can’t read .docx.

  4. Start Claude Code inside the folder and run /setup. Type claude from inside the repo, run /setup, and point it at your documents. It shows every change before writing and is safe to re-run.

  5. Point it at your market. Out of the box it searches LinkedIn and freehire.me, with the Danish boards off. Tell /setup your city and target roles — LinkedIn takes location as a plain flag, so “Remote”, “Lahore, Pakistan”, “Karachi” all work.

  6. Run your first search. Run /scrape, then /rank for a shortlist, then /apply on the best one.

Want Claude to set it up with you?

Open Claude Code in an empty folder and paste this. It clones the repo, checks what you already have, and walks you through the rest. It can’t install LaTeX for you (that installer may ask for your password), and you’ll still reopen Claude Code inside the new folder before running /setup.

I want to set up the open-source job-search framework at
https://github.com/MadsLorentzen/ai-job-search on my own machine.
Clone it into this folder, then read its README.md and SETUP.md fully
before doing anything else.

Check which prerequisites I already have: Python 3.10+, Bun, and a
LaTeX setup with both lualatex and xelatex. For anything missing, give
me the exact install command for my OS and wait for me to confirm.
Don't run installers that need my password.

Then run the job-board tool install loop from the README. I'm keeping
this repo private on my own computer, so don't fork it or push it
anywhere. When it's ready, tell me the exact command to open Claude
Code inside the repo folder so I can run /setup.

Make it work for Pakistan

The repo ships with Danish job boards as the demo, but LinkedIn and freehire.me (remote/tech roles) already cover most of what you need. For a local board like Rozee.pk, run /add-portal and give it the board’s URL — it builds a search tool after checking it’s public and doesn’t need a login. Ask Claude to test one search before you rely on it.

The honest bits

This is a community project, not an Anthropic product, and it moves fast, so update to a tagged release rather than the latest code. Your files stay on your machine, but everything Claude reads is still processed through your Anthropic account, and each /apply runs several agents plus PDF compiles, so it eats through your plan quickly on heavy days. And since job postings can carry hidden instructions, always read what it wrote before you send anything out. Used with those eyes open, it’s the closest thing to a job-search assistant that never gets tired.

Free either way — an account just keeps your list.
